First, understand that I am NOT
going out of business...that is not why I'm posting this..... I'm just looking for some kindred souls in the feline
respect, and I know first-hand just how uncooperative and 'catty' some other Breeders in this area can be, so I'd like to
open the door to the possibility.....if you're so inclined.... That being said.....I am looking for people who want to go into business
breeding Ragdoll cats. I would prefer that you be in the Houston, Texas, or surrounding area, or in Texas, but if you’re
in another state and you’re really serious about this, then feel free to email me then too. If you think you’re
interested in getting into breeding Ragdoll cats, prior to emailing me, please go to the
following Ragdoll Fancier’s Club International (RFCI) web-page and read it carefully and in its entirety. http://www.rfci.org/info/interested_in_breeding.php When you email me,
please give me some information regarding your current status, such as your family situation and marital status, any children
and their ages, your living arrangements such as that you own your own house and/or live in the country, or that you rent,
and let me know if you work outside your home and how many hours a week you work, or if you have to travel for work, etc.
so that I can get a better idea if I think you could reasonably work cat breeding into your life as it is. Additionally,
if you have a spouse or significant other, you need to confer with them and have their blessing to do this should you decide
to move forward. Your spouse, or significant other, should also read the RFCI info prior to consenting to you becoming a Breeder
and be ready for them to suggest that you have your head examined after you hit them up with this ‘breeding idea.’
Also, you need to know that there will be an investment that you would have to make to buy supplies,
breeding cats, etc., so you would need to be able to come up with around $7,000.00, not all at one time, but within the first
year or so, in cash or on credit cards, to get your cattery going. And that is a conservative estimate based upon getting
one male and 3 females and the supplies you’d need for those cats until such time that any of them produce kittens to
sell. Each cat with breeding rights will cost from $1500.00 to $1800.00 (or more, depending on the cats you select), so that
is the largest part of the investment. You must have at least 3 girls to 1 boy, or he will be depressed and unhealthy. Also,
you will not be able to breed the girls more than 2 times per year, maximum, and even those 2 times will depend on how they
handle each pregnancy and whether they can gain enough weight back to breed again within that time period. Ideally, with the
1 male, 3 females scenario, you’d be looking at a maximum of 6 litters per year after they are old enough to breed.
If you start out buying kittens to grow them up as breeders, you will have around 1 ½ years where no money will come
back into the business, because none of your females will be old enough to breed. If you buy older cats to use as breeders,
then depending on their ages, you could have kittens within the first few months, but more than likely you will have to pay
more for older breeders since you won’t incur the costs of growing the cat up to breeding age. Also, you will need to
have the space to have the cats in your home as part of your family life. Putting them in a separate building is not an option,
so arrangements would need to be made to have the cats and kittens inside your home at all times. The time and energy that
you will have to commit to every day, the money you will spend, and it being O.K. for the cats and kittens to be constantly
running around your house is why you’ll need the support of your family and/or spouse, or significant other. You will
also need to be able to talk to, and meet with, strangers who inquire about buying a Ragdoll from you, so ‘people skills’
are a must. Basically, you need to be a work-a-holic, compulsive organizer, neat-freak, who can also hold a conversation with
a brick wall, AND who just happens to love cats. If you have all those traits, then that's only a start, but it's possible
that you’ll do well with this ‘hobby’...otherwise, you’ll surely never stay ahead of the work, the
smell, or have time to socialize with the kittens and cats, much less to do anything else in your life.... Only
serious inquires, please, as I’m a very busy woman and don’t have time for casual inquiries on this matter. Still
interested??? Email me at: TheCrazyCatLady@QueenOfHeartsRagdolls.com
